Challenge

Create and pitch a web-based media company that addresses a need from young people in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Challenge

Creative work online is often consumed through polished final outcomes, with little visibility into the process behind it.

Solution

A media platform centred around process-driven stories, reflections, and the thinking behind creative work.

I approached this project by asking:

How you feel after reading the content on the platform?

Why do you consume these platforms?

What are some problems you find with the current media industry?


And then I mapped my assumptions Assumptions that I've noticed within young people New Zealand and did further academic research based on these. After an affinity map Research Affinity Map which lead me to:

Define

To understand the why behind the users behaviours, I conducted a couple of in depth interviews on:

There were two key insights that jumped out to me:

Creative Block

Consuming large amounts of creative content is counterproductive to finding inspiration

Formality

Intimidated by traditional media because it’s so wordy, too serious, lots of formal jargon

A coded responsive media platform with a focus on process and reflection, allowing creatives to share the messy realities of their creative journey. The platform challenges the perception of polished creative work by showcasing its messy process, fostering a more authentic and supportive creative community.
